Birthing professionals and allied professionals are uniquely placed to transform the way we support and experience birth through understanding implicit birth memories.
Being an ‘Imprint Informed’ practitioner means you understand how birth imprints are formed, what influences the nature of these imprints to become positive or negative forces in our lives, and how we can support parents and babies to integrate their imprints in constructive ways. As an ‘Imprint Informed’ practitioner you will have the knowledge and tools to transform the way you see and support your clients.
That’s why we’ve created this fantastic Exploring Birth Imprints course.

Echos of birth are delighted to be partnering with internationally renowned educator and practitioner of the prenatal and perinatal sciences and baby therapist, Karlton Terry, to deliver this wonderful course where we will explore the psychological imprints of the birth journey.
We have worked with Karlton to tailor his fantastic Ask KT series into a bespoke course consisting of 10 classes all focused on exploring birth imprints and the profound impact that have on us all.
The course is broken down into convenient 90 minute classes delivered monthly and will share vital information regarding the psychological and emotional consequences from the various pre & perinatal stages that all human beings experience.
In Stage 1 of the 4 stage of birth, the lie-side of the baby’s cranium, especially the greater wing of the sphenoid and the temples, are in strong contact with the mother’s lumbo-sacral promontory, the “LSP.”
This stage is called Transverse Cranium because the baby’s head is in a transverse position relative to its mother’s body. At this stage babies can struggle desperately depending on the intensity of contractions and the relative dilation of the cervix, or lack thereof. Karlton will explore the somatic dynamics and the compressional forces along the baby’s longitudinal axis and the psychological imprints that can result from the conjunct pathways initiated during this stage of birth.
22nd February 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
Stage 2 is all about descent, rotation and transition.
Although it is the shortest stage, lasting usually ten to sixty minutes, Stage 2 occurs in the narrowest part of the maternal pelvis, and can be the most painful stage. At this stage, the head is forced away from its “head over heart alignment,” which has been in place since the third week of gestation. Turning the head while in high-pressure contact with the bones of the mother’s pelvis will generate rotational or torsional patterning in the cranium and throughout the body.
21st March 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
Karlton shares the specific challenges encountered by the baby, and different protocols to be applied during therapy, related to issues arising from Stage 3 of the birth process.
In Stage 3, the baby has descended through the pelvic inlet, and has completed the rotation required in Stage 2, and now must negotiate yet another landscape: the maternal sacrum, coccyx, and pubic symphysis.
16th May 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
Stage 4 of birth, known as the primal bonding window, occurs when the baby’s body is finally born.
It is signified by a few general traumas, particularly if the birth has occurred in a hospital: premature cutting of the cord; prevention of maternal bonding and isolation; and interventions involving manipulation or invasion (weighing, scrubbing, suction, heel pricks, etc.).
20th June 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
The human system is wired to initiate and complete birth without drugs, yet in many countries around the world, childbirth is induced with the synthetic hormone known as Pitocin.
To the detriment of humanity, women are normally not advised in connection with the full picture of how Pitocin as a common intervention at birth has grave implications.
25th July 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
Every birth intervention has a consequence, and every consequence entangles the human being with impediments that diminish the quality of life for a soul who came to earth to do something.
If only we could insert a single class in a single trimester of medical school with the outlines and the self-evident consequences of obstetrical interventions, then our birth practitioners would hopefully be as cautious with their decision-making process around employing interventions, as if the baby coming into the world was their own.
22nd August 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
C-sections are now very common and in some parts of the world exclusively practiced, yet they interrupt the hormonal physiology between mother and baby and infringe upon the baby’s initiation of the birth process.
This relinquishment process is not of the babe’s volition and therefore imparts a unique set of psychological imprints. What do you suppose it is like starting your birth based on what a medical team considers is an emergency, or based upon a time that has been scheduled, and then someone cuts into your private space and pulls you out, versus having the experience of starting your own birth, pushing and fighting your way through the birth canal?
19th September 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
Most mothers, even ones who are trying to get pregnant, have no idea if or when they have conceived, nor if or when implantation has occurred.
The stage of “discovery” begins when mothers determine, for certain, that they are pregnant, often followed by a very strong emotional response to this realisation.
Because these responses are intense, they have a strong reflection in the biochemistry of the mother. This biochemistry intensely affects the embryo, which is normally about four weeks old and the size of a pea.
17th October 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
One of the most unique imprints studied in prenatal and perinatal somatic psychology is twin loss.
Also referred to as Vanishing Twin Syndrome, twin loss is a type of miscarriage when there is a loss of one baby in a multiple pregnancy, and the fetal tissue remaining is usually absorbed by the mother, leaving a surviving baby.
14th November 11am (AEST)/GMT+10
All babies develop substantial relationships with their umbilical cord and the term “Umbilical Affect” (originated by Francis Mott and elaborated upon by Frank Lake) is used to describe the many affects that the umbilical cord and its contents have upon the baby.
A successful Implantation results in the development of the umbilical cord and the placenta–the baby’s lifeline: its food supply, its oxygen supply, its communication line signaling the moods and even the personal experiences of the mother, its communication line to send signals to the mother, and its way of excreting.

Not at all. The course has specifically been designed for birthing professionals and allied professionals, there is no need for you to have any training in psychology to be able to understand the course.
All of the classes will be recorded and you will have lifetime access to the videos to watch as often as you like. So if you miss a live class you can easily catch-up at a time that is convenient to you.
Yes! You don’t need any prior knowledge of birth imprints to participate in this course. But the great news is that for a limited time you can still access the free 3-part Discovering Birth Imprints course which will give you a great overview of the field and how it applies to our birthing experiences. You can access the Discovering Birth Imprints course here, but act quickly because it’s only available free for a few more days.
It depends which professional organisation you are registered with. We will provide you with a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the course as evidence of your participation. Many professions can use this as evidence of CPD hours.
We are based in Queensland, Australia and Karlton is on the West Coast USA. Live classes will be held at GMT+10hrs, which is 11am Australian Eastern Standard Time. If attending the live classes is not convenient for your timezone, the recordings will be available for you to watch at whatever time is convenient for you. Depending on the cohort for the course, we may be able to organise additional integration workshops to better suit other timezones.
All of the live classes will be streamed through Webex. If you are not familiar with Webex it is very similar to other video conferencing software and is a very secure system. When you enrol in the course you’ll also have access to the echos of birth community platform where you will find a useful guide for downloading and using Webex.
No, but you will have access to everything via the echos of birth community platform whenever you need it.
‘Imprint Informed’ is a term that we have created to describe someone that has undertaken training that enables them to understand how birth imprints are created and how they can affect us as parents and babies. An ‘Imprint Informed’ practitioner is able to integrate their understanding of the psychological, physiological and emotional aspects of birth imprints into their professional practice in order to adjust the support they provide to parents and babies based on their imprints.
You can either pay for the whole course in one easy payment, or if you prefer to pay monthly then we have a 10-month monthly subscription plan. Paying monthly is slightly more expensive to cover the increased transaction fees.
Feel free to contact us with any questions via our email admin@echosofbirth.com.
